Glass verandas

A special feature of Siikais is the hexagonal glass porch. At the end of the 1800th century, as the peasants became wealthy, large log buildings were built in Siikais, which included a decorative glass porch. The porches were built by skilled craftsmen who went from house to house. They could receive a markka for each pane of glass. Porches were used to show wealth and were status symbols of their time.

There are currently eight remaining porches in the buildings. The porches of the Local History Museum and the Weaving Station can be visited without prior reservation. At the local history museum Of course, there is much more to see.

Siikainen Church and Church Museum

The wooden church, designed by architect Karl Viktor Reinius, was built on the site of an old church that had been set on fire by lightning and was completed in 1889. The 1200-seat long church represents the neo-Gothic style. The “Crucified” altarpiece was painted by Ilmari Launis in 1911. The current church was built from wood obtained from Siikainen’s own forests and cost 68 markkas at the time. The money was obtained by borrowing and collecting fees from all those who had been baptized. Mills, sawmills and other industrial plants also contributed to the costs according to their mantle shares. Each member of the congregation was obliged to participate in the construction work for 000-1 days. The current church organ was built in the Nordic 3th-century Baroque style and was consecrated in 1700.

During a visit to the church museum and guided cemetery tours, you will hear stories and history about Siikainen. From the church bell tower, you can see all the villages of Siikainen in one go. In the Siikainen church museum, you can find, for example, hymn books from 1841-1888, a fire hose, tools used in the construction of the church and the door of the old church from 1771.

Whitefish weaving station

The Siikainen Weaving Circle, organized by Merikarvia Adult Education Center, operates in Heikintalo. The Weaving Station also has a craft shop, which sells crafts suitable for gifts, souvenirs or for your own home, such as rugs, cloths, etc. Taru Hollmén is responsible for the operations of the Weaving Station, tel. 040-553 9154.

Samje Retreat and Art Center and Stupa

A Meditative Art Center has been established in Samje, showcasing Tibetan art collected by Pekka Airaksinen from India and Nepal, as well as his own visual art, which is inspired by the meditation life.
Samje is home to Finland's only and the world's northernmost Stupa. It is a five-meter-high granite statue that symbolizes inner peace and world peace. The Stupa is also of Tibetan tradition.

During the summer, Samje hosts guided yoga, meditation and creative retreats. You can also rent a room for a self-guided retreat.

The art center is open in the summer and for groups by appointment throughout the year.

The Ravintornekaa production plant is located in Siikainen in the middle of the pure Finnish countryside – away from population centers, highways and heavy industry. Karin Havupuu extract drink has been produced at Ravintornekaa for over 40 years – since 1975. Karin Havupuu extract drink is a completely Finnish natural product, the recipe of which is based on ancient Finnish folklore. The product has been awarded both the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the Organic certificate. You can visit Ravintornekaa by prior arrangement.

Katselmakallio nature tower and lean-to

The Katselmankallio nature tower is located in the village of Leppijärvi, at the highest point in Siikainen. The nature tower is about 15 meters high and offers great views of the largest continuous bog areas in Southern Finland. The nature tower is a good place to spot birds and you may also see other forest animals, as the area has a large animal population.

The Katselma area is worth taking advantage of for both winter and summer trips! Next to the nature tower there is a lean-to and a campfire site, where it is nice to sit for a while and eat a picnic lunch. Hikers also have access to a wilderness hut and a wooden toilet. Haapajärvi farm

In the direction of view, in the Haapakeitaan swamp, there is a farm that was still used as a residence in the late 80s, which active nature enthusiasts have renovated to make it a safe place to rest. You can get to the farm by driving to the end of Herranmetsäntie and parking in the yard of an abandoned house. There is no winter maintenance at the Haapajärvi farm (the road is not plowed all the way to the end). This is a couple of kilometers of walking distance. Since the road practically runs in the middle of the swamp, hikers need good footwear. Rubber boots are a great choice in wet weather. The farm is located in the Finnish Forest Service's peatland conservation area.

Hirvijärvi hut

Hirvijärvi hut terrain is suitable for hiking, skiing and canoeing safaris. Snowshoeing and ATV safaris can also be arranged in the area around the hut. The hut is located along the Northern Satakunta snowmobile route. The hut can also be used for meetings and evening parties, with space for up to 30 people. Kurikanniska Beach

You can take a dip in the natural beauty of Kurikanniska beach, which is located on the shores of Lake Isojärvi. At Kurikanniska you can spend the whole day sunbathing, fishing or stopping to cool off during a bike ride. There are changing rooms on the beach. The area is home to a dam where the Merikarvianjoki River begins.

Karikoski spring forest

The spring, located in the Korpimaisema area, is in Otamo near Kurikanniska. There is a signpost to the spring from the road.

Myllykoski

In Hirvijärvi, in the Myllykoski area, it is possible to see beavers and their creations. A lean-to has been built on top of a steep cliff for tourists to use. There are signs to the area from Hirvijärventie.

Aittasalmi nature trail and birdwatching tower

The nature trail (approx. 1,7 km) runs through the parish's primeval forest area and there is also the Itäjärvi bird tower along the way. The area is rich in birdlife and the tower is an excellent place to observe birds. There is a lean-to and a campfire site near the parking lot.

Pyntaisten nature photography location and lean-to

Nature photography enthusiasts and others interested in it can pursue their hobby at the nature photography site of the Pyntäisten Hunting Society. Hunting enthusiasts have the opportunity to go on a moose or white-tailed deer hunt with a guide. You can take a break from photography or hunting at the nearby lean-to while enjoying picnics. The lean-to is located right along Honkajoentie and can be reached by car right next to it.

Tamppukallio bird watching area and Särkikoski lean-to

In Leväsjoki you can spot birds from Tamppukallio. The rock is located on the shore of a shallow and lush bird lake, Leväslampi. About a kilometer from the rock, near Järvikulmantie, is the Särkikoski lean-to.

Tunturijoki hut

You can borrow a key to the Tunturijoki hut from the Eteläpää Tourist Centre. The hut is located along the guided nature trail starting from Eteläpää and is an excellent destination for those who enjoy nature hiking. The most enthusiastic hikers can continue along the guided route from Tunturijoki to Hirvijärvi.

Satakunta Motorsports Center

The Satakunta Motorsports Centre serves as a driving training and racing car testing and adjustment site for enthusiasts and racing drivers. The versatile Siikainen special stage is almost 5 kilometers long and quite challenging. The hard-surfaced gravel route in the track area is approximately 7,5 kilometers long in total.
