Siikainen Municipality was awarded a project grant for the development of the Eteläpää area - improvement of caravan and recreation area services project
The municipality of Siikainen is implementing a development project in the Eteläpää area, which will improve the services of the caravan and recreation area and increase the attractiveness of the area as a leisure destination for tourists and locals.
The project will build a new greywater discharge point for caravans and motorhomes to ensure environmentally friendly wastewater treatment. In addition, caravan spaces will be added between the maintenance building and the existing area, and the mini-golf area will be expanded with four new courses and bases.
As part of the project, stairs attached to the floating pier will also be purchased, which will improve the safety and usability of the beach area for swimmers and water area users. The stairs will be dimensioned taking into account water level fluctuations and will be made of durable, long-lasting materials, taking into account the needs of seniors in terms of safety and ease of use. The solution will improve the accessibility of the area and increase its attractiveness as a diverse and safe recreational destination. In addition, the project will purchase 12 signposts for internal guidance in the area and to improve the usability of services. The signs will be installed on concrete foundations and pipe brackets, and they will support the clarity of traffic, routes and service points in the area.
The aim is to improve the service level, functionality and sustainability of the Eteläpää area and strengthen its position as a high-quality tourism and recreation destination. The expected results are improved customer experience, increased occupancy and increased attractiveness of the area. The beneficiaries are tourists, local residents, as well as businesses and service providers in the area, who benefit from the development of tourism and leisure services.
The project "Development of the Southpää area - improvement of caravan and recreation area services" has received funding from the EU Rural Fund with a support rate of 50%. This EU co-financed grant was awarded on 30 March 2026 and is worth a total of 13,686.71 euros, of which the EU share is 11,770.57 euros.

The project grant enabled the development of the Eteläpää tourist area to become even more attractive.
The municipality of Siikainen has built a maintenance building for hikers in Eteläpää. The building has a floor area of 84 m² and includes washing facilities, toilets and maintenance facilities for hikers and caravanners. At the other end of the building there is a 29 m² space for rental hobby equipment.
The Johku online booking system on the Retkikoppi.fi website is used for renting out hobby equipment. Entrepreneurs and private individuals in the area can offer their purchased hobby equipment for rent through the equipment rental company.
The equipment rental shop has an electric lock, the unlocking code of which is provided to the customer upon booking. This means that the rented equipment can be picked up and returned flexibly according to the booking.
The equipment rental development project has received 80% funding from the European Union from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) of the EU Regional and Structural Policy Programme for a Renewable and Skilled Finland 2021–2027. The funding has been granted for the development of the recreational equipment rental business and the related online booking system.
