Road construction

Within the municipality, there are municipally managed roads, state-managed public roads, and private roads managed by road municipalities.

Municipal roads

Mainly streets inside the built-up area markers, except for Lauttijärventie, Hirvijärventie, Tuorilantie and Siikaistentie.

There are approximately 12,4 km of planned roads.

Cleaning and maintenance

Potholes and cracks that cause danger are repaired as soon as they are noticed or reported. Road sign and other damage is repaired on a case-by-case basis, depending on the urgency.
Sandblasting sand is cleaned from streets and other public areas in the spring, conditions permitting. Before brushing, the area is watered to reduce dust nuisance.

Gravel road surfaces are salted in the spring to prevent dust. Treatments are repeated if necessary if harmful dust occurs. Salting is normally carried out during May-June.

Winter maintenance

The following principles are followed when plowing municipal roads and light traffic routes: plowing begins when the average amount of loose snow is five centimeters.

Anti-slip measures are taken as needed. Salt is not used.

Care and maintenance responsibilities

Obligations of the plot owner and occupier

• Keeping the area between the road and the plot tidy
• Make sure that the plantings on the plot are inside the plot (also at full size)
• Removing dirt and debris from storm drain cover grates
• Preventing clogging of ditch drums by removing debris, etc.
• Maintenance of the plot entrance

Municipal responsibilities

• Street cleaning
• Cleaning and maintenance of plantings, furniture, platforms, guardrails, traffic signs and other equipment
• Repair and maintenance of roadways and light traffic routes and pavements
• Keeping a gravel-paved street level and binding dust on a gravel-paved roadway

Maintenance is carried out by contractors selected by the municipality.
