The main industry in the municipality in the 1950s was agriculture. The agricultural population was mainly small farmers. In 1995, there were 95 dairy farms in Siikainen, in 2020 there were 11 dairy farms left. According to the land survey and classification completed in 1955, there were crops in Siikainen as follows; Arable land almost 4000 ha, meadows about 170 ha and natural pastures 500 ha. Today, about 7% of the area of Siikainen is arable land, or 34,39 km². The most cultivated plants are grasses, oats and barley.

The demand for wood increased in the 1860s and 1870s as steam sawmills became more common. The Siikainen area had the advantage of large forest resources and good logging opportunities for nearby sawmills. In 2021, 76% of our municipality's area is forest, of which 2018% was transferred to organic farming in 13. The future of forests is seen as bright, as the use of wood has expanded beyond traditional uses.
