New use for the old
From an old dairy to a machine shop
Siikaisten Cooperative Dairy was built in 1933. Today, the old dairy serves as the office premises of Satateräs Oy. Although the old dairy building has undergone renovations, it is still recognizable as the same Siikaisten Cooperative Dairy where milk was transported from different parts of Siikaisten between 1946 and 1975.
SATATERÄS OY is a machine shop founded in 1975. The company has been operating in Siikainen since 1977. Satateräs is located in the central business district of Siikainen, and the industrial halls have been built by the company in several parts. Satateräs Oy has manufactured its own products throughout its operations and has operated in the lifting and handling equipment sector from the beginning. Currently, the company is one of Finland's leading crane manufacturers.
From school to equestrian farm
Samminmaja Primary School was built in 1917. A couple from Siikai, Pirjo and Jouko Lammi, bought the former primary school in 1971, after it had been unused for four years. Operations began immediately, at first on a small scale.
Nowadays, Sammin Ratsutila organizes parties and other events, provides catering services for nearby areas, and offers group meals upon request. Party guests also have the opportunity to use the farm's accommodation services.
The farm also has horses and Sammin Ratsutila is a hobby stable approved by the SRL (Finnish Equestrian Association). In the summer, very popular riding camps are organized. At other times of the year, riding lessons are available in the manege, on the outdoor field or in the terrain.
From a community center to a retreat center
In the village of Pyntäisten, north of the Samminjoki River, a 3-story Siikainen municipal home with 40 rooms was built on the Isotalo estate owned by the municipality of Siikainen. The municipal home was inaugurated on June 14.6.1931, 1989. After the Metsätähti service center was completed in XNUMX, the nursing home was moved there.
Today, the premises house the Samje Retreat Center and the Meditative Art Center. The center is maintained by the Muinaismieliset ry, a heritage association that has been operating since 1980. Samje is currently home to Finland's only and the world's northernmost Stupa of Tibetan tradition. The five-meter-high granite statue symbolizes inner peace and world peace.
From a cooperative to a yarn specialty store
After the merger of Siikainen Municipal Cooperative and Siikainen Cooperative, the newly formed supervisory board began planning the expansion of the Leväsjoki store. In 1928, a new store building was completed in its current location in Leväsjoki. This building has operated as a store continuously for 92 years.
In 2014, Liljan Lankakauppa opened its doors on the premises. In addition to yarn and craft supplies, the store also has a café. Liljan Lankakauppa has a wide selection of yarn. There are over 40 yarn types and over 100 different shades available, and one of the yarn shop's attractions is the variety of colors.
